Saint Cosme, Chateauneuf du Pape, France, 2019 - $59.99
We have secured two cases of the wonderful 2019 Chateau Saint Cosme Chateauneuf du Pape for the holidays, at one of the best prices in the country. Shop this fabulous deal NOW!
An elegant wine from one of our all-time favorite producers at a great price! Comes from three climats (small plots), the most famous of which is the plateau of La Crau with its distinctive galets over clay, bringing power and structure to the blend. Valori and Christia climats are on sandy soils, giving the wine its perfume and freshness. Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, and Cinsaut, aged for 24 months in old 228-liter barrels, and bottled without fining or filtration. Biodynamic practices!
Our favorite wine writer Jancis Robinson speaks highly of the 2019 Southern Rhone vintage:
A wet winter and mild spring resulted in normal yields for the first time since 2016. A hot and dry summer led to thicker grape skins and higher skin to juice ratio making over-extraction easy - those with a lighter touch were rewarded. Reds are powerful with higher tannin than usual, surprisingly fresh acidity, and warming alcohol - most will improve with bottle age.
Happy Halloween weekend! Take a break from the kids and candy and enjoy an Adult Halloween at the wine bar. We will have a special wine flight and frighteningly good high-end reds by the glass inside the spooky cellar.
Boo! Explore haunted chateaus and cellars for darkly brooding Cabs, Zins, blends and more that will satisfy your craving for big reds! Fun labels and wines will create your Halloween fun this weekend.
Don't be spooked! Ask our sommeliers about our scary good red wines and receive 10% off any 2 bottles or more.
Pizzolato, Cabernet Sauvignon, Veneto I.G.T., Italy - $15.99
No Sulfites Added, Vegan, Organic Wine!
Wines Of The Month | October 2024 - Fox Valley Magazine
The main difference between a wine created with or without sulfites is the special attention that is paid in the vineyard as well as in the cellars to avoiding grape contamination. Sulfur is used in winemaking as the main antiseptic, preventing the grapes and wine from suffering the attacks of bacteria which could negatively affect or damage the wine completely.
Aromas of tangy red currant and cranberry accompanied by spicy cedar and black flinty mineral notes. The palate mirrors the nose and adds boysenberry, black cherry, and a splash of kirsch in addition to a slight green bell pepper and menthol finish. A supple, dryish medium body and a tangy pomegranate, black pepper and toasted cedar accented finish. A nice savory table wine; try with pepper steak or fajitas.
GWC Sommelier Liz Kowal was recently chose to participate in Somm Sessions Chicago Gourmet. Liz was asked to create a pairing for an Autumn Panna Cotta with cider poached apples, caramel and shortbread crumb. She chose Monogram Franciacorta Brut Saten, a sparkling wine made in the Champagne method the Lombardy region of Italy.
"Saten" means silk and the creaminess of the light mousse matched the silkiness of the panna cotta. The 100% Chardonnay accented the apples and the richness of the 24-month aging on lees complemented the shortbread and carameld Liz was honored to participate with some of Chicago's top sommeliers, including her mentor Master Sommelier Serafin Alvarado!
